Mnoty Press is our main publication branch. We publish scholarly work, but not exactly in line with the standard university presses. We are interested primarily in scholarship that helps expand the discourse. We welcome works of poetry, hagiography, spirituality, and astrology, as well as works of history, archaeology, anthropology, and political science.
Mnoty is intended to compliment such institutions by helping broaden the discourse.. We seek open-minded free thinkers to join our team. If you are interested, please contact us.

In this essay, I consider two artifacts in the Dunhuang archaeological assemblage in relation to musical practice and gendered segregation in the Pamir and Hindu Kush Mountains (a region I call the Pamir-Kush). My argument is that the Silk Road culture was steeped in the exploitation of women as sexual entertainers with musical accompaniment, and that the conservatism of the people in the mountains provided for a counter-cultural movement whereby women were excluded from participating in public musical practices.

My basic argument here is that the structure and function of the present system of online content creation supports the ideology globalized fascism. It conditions us to seek approval, it infantilizes our emotional responses, and it compounds the spiritual alienation at the heart of globalized fascism.

Du Fu on war and music: a reflection on Tang poetry. An interpretation of a poem by Du Fu describing the role of music in Tang China, with regard to people's dissatisfaction with the ongoing war and the inability of the government to provide peace.
Colonial psychology and taking sides: a reflection on 'The Quiet American' by Graham Greene. An essay on the novel that looks at the choices people have within colonial relationships, and how sometimes people are more involved than they think, and taking sides is necessary whether we face the choice or not.
Atomism, social media, community. An essay about how the social media sometimes appeals to fear in such a way as to drive us further apart, and drive us into approval-seeking behavior, and some of the social ramifications that stem from that manipulative practice.
Sovereignty, courts, and rights. An essay on international law, and how it is falling short on its promise. I suggest a kind of layered sovereignty structure that might help make institutions of international law more effective at helping build justice.

This paper is about the Romanization and militarization of the Christian Church. Its focus is on an essay by Augustine of Hippo justifying Christian use of violence. I argue that Augustine's application of just war theory was superficial, yet it served the Roman Church well as it began to separate its authority from that of the Bishopric of Constantinople.

I'm mostly focused on who controls what mines in Indonesia today, and how that might give us clues as to how we can start putting together international institutions that can regulate mining practices.
History, culture, peace, freedom: volumes for sale.
This is a monthly journal with essays on cultural history with an advocacy motive. They are available for paid subscription through substack. Some are available on gumroad. I cover a wide range of topics in world history, and I don't claim to be an expert on any of it. The core mission of this project is to help scholars look at things differently and take an open-minded approach to historical studies; especially with regard to recognizing how the biases of the scholars of previous centuries hamper our understanding of history today.
